Google disclosed that they will launch a new platform next year; readers can buy digital books through the platform. As long as the book is purchased, the reader can download it through the internet anytime anywhere, and can use a variety of tools to read the book. This new platform called Google Editions will first be released in America, Britain and other European countries.
All the digital books would be stored in the cloud library, After readers bought the book, they can use any tool which is able to read online, including computers, smart phones and e-reader, to read the download book in any country at any time. Google will store all the books in one internet library, The readers decide where to buy and read the books at their own discretion. And the price of the book is determined by the publisher.
Google Editions will provide three distribution models of the digital books. Readers are supposed to buy the books through Google website, cooperative network bookstores, publishers’ Websites. The sales of the digital copies of the book through the Google’s website, Google and the publishers have the sharing ratio of 37:63; If the books are distributed through Google’s cooperative online bookstores, the publishers will get 45% of the profit, and the rest 55% will be shared between online bookstores and Google. Revenue-sharing scheme hasn’t been decided yet for publishers who sell books by themselves. Currently some internet bookstores have joined in this activity. these bookstores are likely to become the first Google Editions cooperative network bookstores.
Google said that when the platform starts, there will be about 400,000-600,000 books can be sold. And the readers could get the books directly from Google.com, or from other online stores, like Amazon, said Google.

Google is starting to become the new Microsoft. Full of announcements and then apologies. Maybe its hard to actually accomplish something when you have to walk around all those bags of cash in the office. I’ll not hold my breath waiting to see a Google van doing internet installation in my neighborhood so I can get 100 Meg per second. Maybe they learned from Obama, always talk about what your going to do.
