A Story about the Christmas Tree

Every year when Christmas Day is approaching, families begin to look for a beautiful tree to decorate for the festival. It is a tradition so popular that no family will miss it. Then why do people have to prepare a tree to celebrate Christmas? Is there any story about that which makes it a tradition like what people do nowadays? These two questions were asked by my little girl, Emily, when she was sitting under the Christmas tree last year, because she was curious about the origins. Then I began to tell the story.

Once upon a time, it was in Germany. There was a little boy who was starving and looking poor. He came into a village at night of Christmas. It was so dark and freezing outside. The little boy hardly could stand it, so he knocked at a farmer’s house. When the host came to open the door, he was very surprised at the boy who was so poor on such a beautiful night which was meant for a family time. He let the boy in at once, providing him warm food and drinks to make him comfortable. The next day, the boy almost recovered and he was about to leave. The farmer was still worried about the boy, but he could do nothing but give him enough food and water. Just when the boy left the village, considering the kindness he had received in the family, he planted a broken pine branch in the front yard of the farmer to express his gratitude. All of a sudden, the broken branch grew to be a big tree which was full of all kinds of presents. Since then, every year on Christmas night, there have been gifts on the tree, just like fruits.
This is the story about the Christmas tree. Nowadays, when the Christmas Day is approaching, all people begin to look for a beautiful tree and decorate it with all kinds of gifts, for friends, children, husband and wife. No matter whether the story is true or not, it is simply a sweet tradition for people to get a chance to express their love to the one they love. And it is a tradition to my family. Every year I prepare a gift for my little daughter and enjoy my family time under the special tree. I cannot remember how many times that I have spent with my wonderful little girl and my wife under the tree and how happy when I am with them.
