Romania plans to develop a new tax – fat tax, which mainly impose to snack food, candy, and soft drink. All of the tax fees will be used in public health area.
The government of Romania thinks that fat tax forces the public to change their food structure and thus reduce the rate of obesity among all of the people. At the same time, fat tax can ease the financial pressure of the government.
As we all know, being fat harms one’s health. In fact, it’s a catty and disrespected measure to impose fat tax. And there are also many other examples for charging more money to the fat people.
In 2008, Legal & General, an insurance company in Britain, announced that they would charge more fees to the fat people if they want to be insured by the company. In April, 2009, Ryanair, the biggest budge airline in Europe, claimed that they would charge a higher ticket fee to fat people as their weight increase the cost of the flight.
Though it sounds reasonable for all these policies, the fact is fat people will not going to lose weight. Instead, they will pay more money on food, insurance and even ticket. I think it’s discrimination, what about you?
